Last year’s Melbourne Greyhounds Division 1 Grand Finalists are set to do battle once again in a standalone topflight clash this weekend at Warringal Park.

Both sides have had differing fortunes in recent weeks, with the Tigers still undefeated in 2025 whilst the Magpies have dropped their last two games to South Morang and Eltham away from home.

The depth of the Magpies has been tested in recent weeks, with captains Stefan Uzelac and Sam Binion, as well as VFL-listed tall William Bella, Lachy Batchelor, Corey Sleep, Ben Paterson and Ben Davis all missing at least one game in the past fortnight.

They’ve still been well led by star midfielder Marcus Lentini who polled eight coaches mvp votes in their loss to Eltham last weekend and is the Magpies leading goalkicker with 24 goals.

Nicholas Green had one of his best games of the season in the Magpies 13-point loss to Eltham last round while Hudson Holmes has been a consistent contributor in the past fortnight.

Nick Rutley’s men will need a well-rounded effort against a Heidelberg outfit that continues to go from strength-to-strength and sit four games clear atop the Division 1 table.

In their win last weekend against neighbours Banyule, star ruck Sam Gilmore was back to his best, kicking four goals and claiming 10 coaches votes for the first time this season.

Luke Bunker, Daniel O’Dwyer and Tom Keys continued their terrific seasons in the 44-point victory at Beverley Road Oval, with Bunker leading the Division 1 Coaches MVP Award by eight votes ahead of Marcus Lentini.

Vin Dattoli’s men have had some close battles over the years with the Magpies. However the Tigers are undefeated in their last six games against Montmorency and have won their last four meetings by an average margin of 35.5 points.

Montmorency though have won their last two games at Warringal Park and are one of two sides to have defeated the Tigers since 2022.
