The stage is set for a blockbuster Preliminary Final at Lalor Reserve on Saturday afternoon, as Whittlesea and Macleod battle it out for a coveted spot in the 2025 MC Labour Division 2 Grand Final.

With Diamond Creek already booking their place in the decider, this clash will determine who gets the chance to challenge them for premiership glory.

These two sides have provided plenty of entertainment this season. Back in Round 7, Macleod flexed their muscle with a 29-point win at De Winton Reserve.

Captain Darcy Barden was unstoppable that day, booting six goals in a match-winning display, while Justin White’s class and work rate shone through. Strong contributions from Jordan Corelli, Kurt Manuel and Joel Anderson ensured the Roos were well in control.

When they met again at the Showgrounds just over a month later, it was Whittlesea who responded. The Eagles defended their turf superbly to notch an 11-point victory.

Khaled El-Leissy, Mitchell Andrews and Taidhg Bland were all instrumental in the triumph, while Barden again kept Macleod in touch with four majors.

Only two weeks ago was their most recent meeting in the Qualifying Final, with Macleod winning a thriller by two points after trailing by 51 points in the time on period of the second quarter.

Michael Hurley starred in the victory alongside Barden once again, who kicked four goals in the second half. Blake Watson had a massive impact for the Eagles alongside Andrews, Bland and Jaron Murphy.

This week, Macleod will be buoyed by the inclusion of Carlton VFL-listed Darcy Hogg, who adds strength, skill and presence to their lineup at the most crucial time of year.

Whittlesea, meanwhile, will rely on the balance and consistency that has been their trademark all season. Their ability to spread the workload and find different contributors each week makes them a tough opponent to break down.

With a Grand Final berth on the line, both clubs will throw everything into this contest. The loser’s season will come to an end, while the winner will march on to face Diamond Creek in the ultimate showdown. Fans can expect a fierce, high-pressure battle with no shortage of big moments
