Rhyder brings up 200 games for Hurstbridge

Hurstbridge’s Bec Rhyder ran out for her 200th club game on the first Friday night of the new 2026-27 season as her Hurstbridge 2 side took on Whittlesea 1 at Mernda Central.

It was a thriller as the Bridges prevailed by one goal to mark Rhyder’s milestone, 26-25.

What Hurstbridge had to say:

“Bec first pulled on the Hurstbridge dress in 2015 and across 20 seasons Bec has become such a special part of our club. From the highs of premierships and individual accolades to the countless hours spent coaching, leading and supporting those around her, Bec’s contribution to Hurstbridge Netball goes far beyond paper.

Throughout her journey, Bec has taken on so many roles including Club Captain, Team Coach, Training Coach and member of our Leadership Group. She has given so much of herself to this club both on and off the court and we are incredibly grateful to have had her in navy and gold for so many years.”

Rhyder’s career highlights include:

  • 2015–16 Team 1 Best & Fairest
  • 2015–16 Premiership Player
  • 2016 Team 1 Best & Fairest – 3rd Place
  • 2017 Premiership Player
  • 2019 Team 1 Best & Fairest
  • 2021 Team 1 Best & Fairest – 3rd Place

Denton starts St Mary’s coaching career with a win

While a win on debut for most coaches is a thrill, it was extra special for St Mary’s Joanne Denton who after playing in the Burra’s inaugural 15&U side in the 2024-25 summer season, is now coaching the St Mary’s Black team at just 15 years of age.

The team got its campaign off to the perfect start, winning 36-11 over Bundoora White.

Having already gained her coaching accreditation, Denton has also played NFNL representative netball and been talent identified by Netball Victoria. No doubt a promising future in the game awaits both on and off the court.

What St Mary’s had to say: “We love seeing our players grow and take on new roles within the club. To top it off, the girls came away with a win last night to kick off the season.”
