Three big wins have effectively locked in the top five sides for Cleaning Melbourne Division 2 finals with one round to play, but where those sides will finish remains up for grabs.
There were three big wins over the weekend, the biggest of those being Fitzroy Stars’ 145-point win over Lower Plenty.
The Stars had the game on their terms from the outset and were never troubled after setting up a 41-point lead at quarter time.
The headline act was Amina Keegan’s bag of 14 goals – the biggest individual haul of goals in a game this season. Devony Hoare was again among the best players for the Stars, along with Tayla Hart-Aluni and Klarindah Hudson.
Kiana Horman, Molly Reinke and Ella Dunbar gave their all for the Bears on a dirty day. They’ll be aiming to finish their season on a brighter note against Darebin next week.
Reservoir had a similarly comfortable win over North Heidelberg, keeping the Dogs scoreless in an 85-point triumph.
Goals were shared between Mustangs Charlotte van der Vlies (four) Imogen Milford (three), Ava Gerada and Nicole Hales (two each) and they all found their way into the best players along with Briana Barba and Raquel Rocco.
Alice Bowden, Serah Bentley, Abbey Quirk tried all day for North Heidelberg and they’ll finish the season with a hit out against Hurstbridge at Seddon Reserve this coming Sunday.
Darebin was the other big winner of the weekend, stamping their finals ticket as they beat Panton Hill by 59 points.
The Falcons flew out of the blocks with five goals to none in the first term and extended away from there despite some wayward kicking which netted 8.18 for the day.
Jessica Darcy finished with four goals for the winners while Karly Mcniece and Sam Pritchard kicked two each. Hannah Brennan, Olivia Papaleo, Julia McArdle and Claire Hardi were among the best players.
Ruby Moore continued her excellent season with another best afield effort for Panton Hill, along with Angela Milesi and Jessica Dight. The Redbacks will take on West Preston Lakeside in their final fixture of 2026.
Ladder leaders Ivanhoe continue to set the pace in Division 2, coming away from Ben Frilay Oval with a 39-point win over Hurstbridge.
The Ivies, much like Darebin, had some issues in front of goal but eventually capitalised on their dominance kicking three goals in the final term to put a gap in the game. Georgie Pirdis booted five for the visitors who got good service from Claudia Dal Pos, Casey Clough, Talya Callahan and Molly Uwland.
Megan Allan, Kristy Steven and Maddie Ball were in the best for Hurstbridge and Madison Bayes kicked two of the team’s three goals.
Ivanhoe will need to win again this week if they’re to secure the minor premiership, with Fitzroy’s superior percentage the deciding factor if they were to draw level on points.
Kilmore and West Preston Lakeside played out the closest match of the round, the Blues sneaking away in the final term to win by 11 points.
It looked as though Kilmore was on track for a comfortable win at half time leading by 17 points, but the Roosters fought back in the third with three goals to none to cut the margin to just one point at the last change.
Kilmore steadied in the final term though and banked their tenth win of the season, locking in third spot on the table two wins ahead of Reservoir.
Chloe Talbot kicked four goals in an eye-catching game for Kilmore, along with Zahra Kelly, Sienna Shinners and Nicole Bauce. Sarina Galati and Isabel Young were again among West Preston Lakeside’s best with Rachele Carrozza and Steph Gillie.
