Cleaning Melbourne Division 2 is proving to be an even competition, with Ivanhoe the only side to go undefeated at the top of the table after four rounds.
The Ivies were too good for Darebin at AH Capp Reserve, cruising to a 58-point win over the Falcons in a win that featured seven individual goal kickers. Georgia Pirdis finished with four goals with Zoe Doyle, Sophie Bone, Molly Uwland and Anna Fogarty among the black and white’s best.
Julia McArdle and Claire Hardi were the best fort the Falcons, who sit fifth on the table after splitting their first four fixtures 2-2.
Fitzroy Stars look the clear second seed at this stage after their third consecutive win, this time over Panton Hill by 82 points.
The Stars had the game on their terms from the outset, leading at every break to run away with a big win on the road. Montanna Hudson finished with three goals for the Stars, while Devony Hoare continues to be a standout performer week to week and was again named best afield.
Amelia Pullyblank and Bianca Walker were the best of the Redbacks on the day as they sit at 1-3 on the season to date.
The rest of Round 4’s fixtures were much closer, with Kilmore getting the job done over a gallant Reservoir by four points.
This game was a seesawing affair as both sides took turns holding the lead at various stages. Reservoir lead at quarter and half time before a three-goal burst from the Blues in the third term put them nine points ahead at the final break.
An early goal to Reservoir’s Giuseppina Tarantello gave them hope, but the game was locked down by the home side from there as Kilmore improved to 3-1 and open up a one game gap between third and fourth spots.
Kilmore captain Jade Ventura kicked three goals for the home side with Shazimaria Cappello continuing her good form, along with Chiara Nardo and Jenaya Stewart also among the best.
Courtney Ugle, Maddy Briggs and Imogen Milford were the best of the Mustangs who currently sit fourth on the ladder and would feel their best footy has them in the mix for a finals spot.
Hurstbridge and West Preston Lakeside played out a low-scoring thriller at JE Moore Park, with the Bridges emerging victorious by two points to move to 2-2 after four games.
After going scoreless in the opening term, Hurstbridge found its mojo in attack and were eight points in front with a quarter to play. An early goal to West Preston Lakeside’s Natasha Stoikos had the home side up and about, but from there the ball lived in Hurstbridge’s half of the ground as they kicked the last five behinds of the game to secure the win.
Jasmine Sellman, Kristy Steven and Ella Pinney were given the nod by the Hurstbridge coaching staff as best on ground, while Steph Gillie, Sarina Galati and Julia Cherubin were best for West Preston Lakeside which sit at 1-3 after a couple of slender losses.
Lower Plenty 2 was the final winners in Round 4, winning another two-point thriller over North Heidelberg to clinch its first premiership points of the year.
There was very little between both sides all day as scores were tied up at half time before the Bears put their noses in front at the final change, an advantage they were able to hang on to as the scoring opened up in the final term. North Heidelberg kicked the first two goals of the quarter to lead by ten points, before Lower Plenty kicked three of the last four to seal the deal.
Sophie Foote and Chenara Rogers kicked three goals each for Lower Plenty and Dakota Gray Dejong continues to impress. North Heidelberg’s usual suspects Ruby Failla and Remy Moore were again among their best as both teams now sit at 1-3.
