Heat 4 continued their impressive start to the 2022-23 NFNL summer netball campaign, defeating Thomastown 2 by 15 goals at La Trobe Sport Stadium to remain unbeaten.

Neither side tasted defeat throughout the opening three grading games and after both being placed in Section 3 prior to last Friday night, an intriguing battle awaited.

But Heat set the tone of the match from the first whistle, with a dominant second half sealing the 28-13 triumph, their fourth consecutive win of the season.

Heat’s main source of scoring came from goal attack Isabelle Brennan who produced a season-high 22 majors for her side, while Thomastown’s 13 majors were spread between Ruby and Zoe Sommerville as well as Jade Higgins.

It would be Brennan who fired Heat into an early lead, scoring six of her side’s seven majors to establish a six-goal advantage. The defensive efforts of Zara Brazier and Rebecca Fitzgerald were also on show as they kept the Bears to just one goal in the opening quarter.

Thomastown stayed with the pace in the second term as both Ruby and Zoe Sommerville combined for six goals. However, another seven-goal quarter from Heat ensured they remained with a healthy advantage at half time.

As they did in the first term, the Heat continued to impress in the attacking half, with a nine goal to five third term putting the lead into double digits. Brennan scored seven of Heat’s nine goals while the even contribution of the midcourt and defensive players kept the Bears at bay.

Heat would maintain the rage in the final quarter, with a five goal to one term securing their third win by 12 or more goals this year.
