The race to finals in Heidelberg Golf Club Division 1 finals is on in earnest with fourth and fifth spots still very much up for grabs.
St Mary’s and Eltham are all but confirmed as the top two sides and Montmorency could stamp its finals ticket if it can secure the four points against Heidelberg this coming weekend to close out Round 12.
St Mary’s 73-point win over Banyule on Friday night continued their perfect season, the Burra yet to drop a game in 2026.
Six goals to one in the first half set the tone for the visitors who had the game in their keeping from half time onwards.
Three goals apiece to Megan Girolami and Jii Williams helped the Burra to a convincing win, with Kiara Delia and Elyssa Rees named among the best players.
Daisy Getson, Caity Sier and Tayla Manson were named the best for Banyule which will face another stern test this week travelling to Eltham to face the second-placed Panthers.
Eltham also continued its winning ways with a 58-point win over Diamond Creek. The Creekers were within touch of the Panthers at half time trailing by 19 points, but Eltham took another gear after the main break and powered away with an eight-goal to two second half.
Michaela Molenberg finished with six goals for the winners to extend her lead at the top of the goal kicking table, while Isabel Villarreal, Mary Robinson and Jemma Laffey were standouts.
Creekers Karly Cobern and Lauren Durante kicked a couple of goals each and Olivia Caruana, Adele Coppola and Abbi Gardiner were named as the best players.
The middle part of the ladder is where much of the focus will be over the coming fortnight.
If Heidelberg could win its last two games either side of its bye in Round 13, they would be in the box seat to hang onto fifth spot.
Banyule will face Eltham and Lower Plenty in the final two games and Lower Plenty will travel to Montmorency in Round 13 before playing Banyule in the last home and away round. All fixtures which could have big ramifications for the top five standings.
Montmorency’s focus will be on securing a win over Heidelberg on Saturday evening as part of a quadruple-header with the Magpies’ senior men’s teams at Montmorency Park, before their match up with Lower Plenty in Round 13 and a bye in Round 14.
