The frontrunners have emerged after four rounds of Heidelberg Golf Club Division 1 action.

St Mary’s and Eltham have announced themselves as premiership contenders after moving through their first three respective matches (one bye each) undefeated.

St Mary’s were comfortable winners over Lower Plenty on Sunday, running away with a comprehensive 63-point victory. Jaydah Hope was instrumental with three goals, along with Makaylah Appleby and Sarah Johnston kicking two each. Emmison Zealley was named best afield for the Burra.

Holli Farrelly, Anayah Maher and Darci Fitzgerald were the Bears’ best as Lower Plenty currently sit fifth with a record of 1-3.

Eltham’s 29-point win over Heidelberg was a terrific contest from start to finish as the Tigers took a one-point lead into the first break at home. The Panthers lifted from then on however, both finding more avenues to goal and stifling the Tigers on offence, kicking eight goals to four for the remainder of the afternoon.

Emma Wunderlich kicked three for the Panthers along with Michaela Molenberg kicking two in what has been a standout season from Eltham’s captain thus far. Abbey Vaughan and Jamma Laffey were also among the more prominent players for the victors.

Emma Rowe finished the day with three goals for the Tigers and Rebekah Miller, Tayissa Gray and Samantha Carey gave great effort for their side.

Montmorency is back on the winners list and sits 2-2 on the season following a 21-point win over Banyule at Montmorency Park. Similar to Eltham, Montmorency had to do it the hard way after finding themselves trailing at quarter time after Banyule kicked three goals to open the contest.

But some excellent defending from the Magpies across quarters two and three saw the visitors go scoreless, while four goals were registered at the other end. Montmorency ensured the last quarter arm wrestle never got out of their control as the Magpies squared their win loss ledger through four games.

Simone Morihovitis, Jessica Nursey and Indra Lambeth were given plaudits for Montmorency along with Kira Lemire who kicked two goals. Tannah Hurst, Amber Sciacca and Jemma McCarthy the best Bears on the day who sit third on the table at 2-1.

Diamond Creek had the week off and will be feeling fresh for a tough test against Eltham this coming Sunday.
