Senior Teams | May 25-26

The selected teams for this week’s NFNL senior football matches.

The action returns in both Meadows Greyhounds Division 1 and A Plus Labour Solutions Division 2 following last week’s break for the 2019 Worksafe AFL Victoria Community Championships.

There are a host of big names returning across this weekend’s games.

Hurstbridge has named Cameron Cloke after the 2013 Frank Rosbrook Medal winner was approved a transfer back to the club this week.

Cloke played five games for the Bridges in 2018 and kicked 22 goals in four appearances for Jacana earlier this year.

He is joined in the Bridges side by ruckman Jamie Smith for the club’s home match against North Heidelberg at Ben Frilay Oval.

The Bulldogs regain Leigh Gilbert after he missed the Round 5 win at Northcote Park, however forward Kyle Green and defender Morgan Persson-Clark both come out of the side.

Ladder-leader Greensborough has further bolstered its line-up, with Tom Bell, Ben Fennell, Jordan McIvor-Clark and Liam Read all named for the clash against Bundoora at War Memorial Park.

Bell resumes following a hamstring injury sustained in the Round 4 win at Macleod, while Fennell, Read (both Essendon) and McIvor-Clark (North Melbourne) return from VFL duty.

Bundoora skipper Brent Marshall will play his first game of the season following a knee injury, while defender Ben Young has been named for his first game since Round 3 last year.

Ash Close, Kyle Galloway and Charles Le Fanu have all been added to Northcote Park’s line-up for the trip to Montmorency. However, it’s not all great news for the Cougars, with star forward Jackson Starcevich and dual Frank Rosbrook medalist Bronik Davies among the outs.

Close has booted 14 goals in four appearances in 2019, while Galloway was sitting in seventh spot on the Coaches MVP voting prior to missing the Round 5 encounter with North Heidelberg.

The Magpies have made seven changes, which includes the return of Werribee-listed VFL forward Kye Declase, however representative midfielder Stephen McCallum will miss.

Heidelberg regains 2018 Team of the Year forward Chaz Sargeant and Will Goss for its meeting with West Preston-Lakeside at Warringal Park.

The Tigers have suffered some significant loses though, with Jack Blair and VFL trio Christian Buykx-Smith, Fletcher Carroll and Tom Schnerring among the outs following the 125-point win against Montmorency last-up.

West Preston-Lakeside has made just one change, with premiership defender Joel McDonald named for his first game of 2019. He replaces Michael Ercolano.

Lower Plenty has received a welcome boost ahead of its trip to De Winton Park to take on Macleod, with reigning best and fairest Tom Keys named for his first game since hurting his knee in the Round 1 win over Montmorency.

The Roos will be without Brad Leggett, Reid Brandt and Jack Baker following their Round 5 win at Bundoora, although they do regain 2017 best and fairest Shane Doherty and Sahand Ghasimzadeh.

In A Plus Labour Solutions Division 2, Tim Martin is back in Banyule’s line-up for the Bears’ match against Diamond Creek at Beverley Road Oval.

The Creekers have named defender Hugh Kavanagh and forward Nathan Searl as they look to end a two-game losing streak against the ladder-leader.

Eltham star utility Tim Currie has been named for his first game since the 2018 grand final following a hand injury sustained during pre-season. He is joined in the Panthers’ line-up against Watsonia by Brendan O’Sullivan and Darcy Vallance, although Lewis Glasgow is out with a knee injury.

The Saints will be without forward Julian Maloni, who has kicked nine goals in four matches this season.

Whittlesea has named Chris McCabe for its match against the Fitzroy Stars at Sir Douglas Nicholls Oval, but will be without Jaron Murphy. The Stars have made seven changes, which includes the return of Lionel Proctor, although Carl Groth is among the outs.

Meanwhile, Epping has included Lucas Aquilina and Dallyce Taylor for its clash with Thomastown at Main Street Reserve.

In Heidelberg Golf Club Division 3, Old Eltham Collegians has named former Banyule premiership midfielder Kieran Malone for his club debut when the Turtles make the trip to Mernda.

Skipper Tim Woods is also among seven inclusions for the competition newcomers, although Matthew Quinton and Nick Snowdon both come out of the side.

The Demons will be without their past two best and fairest winners Josh Delaney and Matt Campbell for the match at Waterview Recreation Reserve.

Panton Hill has lost key trio Joel McLellan, Matthew Fowler and Samuel Montanaro for its top-three outing against Heidelberg West, although Jonty Rushton returns after missing last week’s win over Mernda.

Kilmore will be without young gun Jeremy Topham for its trip to Lalor, where the Bloods have named Spencer Christopher – who booted five goals in his only previous appearance this year.

Elsewhere, Reservoir skipper Reece Miller returns for the Mustangs home match against ladder-leader Laurimar.

Selected teams for the NFNL Women’s competition will be named in the lead-up to each match.
