The final round of Heidelberg Golf Club Division 1 provides plenty of intrigue with all matches giving teams plenty to play for.
Eltham swept aside Banyule by 50 points to stay second on the table with Emily Wunderlich’s four goals earning her best afield honours, along with Mary Robinson and Brianna Crowley.
For Banyule Mackenzie Prentice, Keely Welsh and Taylah Manson were the standouts, and they’ll need to win this week over Lower Plenty to guarantee their spot in finals.
Even if Eltham was to win this coming week, they wouldn’t be able to overtake the Burra’s superior percentage of a whopping 585.71 and so have locked in second spot being two games clear of Montmorency.
St Mary’s wasn’t troubled by Diamond Creek, cruising to a 106-point win at Whatmough Park.
Megan Girolami kicked a personal season-best eight goals for the Burra and Kiara Delia kicked three as they sharpened up for a sterner test against Eltham this Sunday. Georgia Kitchell and Madison Bickerton also had great games.
Abbi Gardiner, Linda Thorp and Karly Cobern battled admirably for the Creekers who will be aiming to finish the season on a high when they take on Heidelberg this weekend.
Montmorency and Lower Plenty played out the closest game in Round 13, the Magpies winning by 21 points in their final game before the finals series.
There wasn’t much separating both sides all day and the Bears could potentially sense an upset win at three quarter time trailing by a straight kick, but Montmorency pulled away in the final term kicking three goals to none to open up a margin on the scoreboard.
Kira Lemire continued her excellent season with a couple of goals Montmorency and was well supported by Molly Mcerlain, Ellie Thomas and Isobel Shaw as the Magpies now put their feet up with a bye in Round 14.
Darci Fitzgerald, Kaitlyn Manzoney, Amelia Mullane and Georgia Cropley were the best of the Bears who now face a mini elimination final of sorts against Banyule this week. A win would see them do all they can to hold onto fifth spot, but they will also be relying on the result of Heidelberg and Diamond Creek – if Heidelberg can secure a big win, they could jump Lower Plenty into fifth spot.
The headline act will no doubt be the top of the table clash between Eltham and St Mary’s at Eltham Central Park and both sides will be full of confidence following huge wins last week. It promises to be a fascinating day of footy.
