The year will commence in the same way 2012 concluded, with Northcote Park to meet Heidelberg. The Grand Final rematch will be played under lights at Bill Lawry Oval on Friday, April 12 with the Cougars to unfurl their eighth senior flag prior to the first bounce.
Epping will unveil its Division 2 premiership flag the following afternoon with the Division 1 new boys taking on 2011 premier Bundoora at Epping Recreation Reserve. It looms as a tough initiation for the Blues who also face Heidelberg and Northcote Park in the opening month of the season.
The remaining opening week matches include Lower Plenty hosting Eltham, Macleod travelling to Greensborough and West Preston-Lakeside taking on Montmorency.
Round 3 will be named ANZAC Round and will feature another ANZAC clash between Eltham and Montmorency, with the Panthers to host the game this time around. On the same day Lower Plenty and Epping will square off for the first time since meeting in the 2011 Division 2 Grand Final.
Returning Montmorency coach Jack Cole won’t have to wait long to face his former club Greensborough, with the Magpies set to host the Boro in Round 2.
New Macleod coach Garry Ramsay who will take on former club Lower Plenty in Round 4, meanwhile Vin Dattoli will have to wait until Round 7 to face his old side when Lower Plenty travels to West Preston-Lakeside.
There will be no Division 1 action over the Queen’s Birthday weekend, while another bye has been scheduled on July 20, between rounds 13 and 14.
The finals series will commence on Saturday, August 31 with Grand Final locked in for September 21.
