The season kicks off on April 13, with the opening week’s matches to include:
Diamond Creek v North Heidelberg
Hurstbridge v Fitzroy Stars
Whittlesea v South Morang
The competition will coincide with the Division 1 fixture, meaning that no games will be played over Queen’s Birthday, nor on July 20 when all eight teams will have a bye.
As such, the Division 2 finals series will commence on August 31, with both semi finals to be played on the same weekend, a change from the past two seasons.
After just falling to Epping in last year’s Grand Final, North Heidelberg faces a tough opening month. The Doggies take on Diamond Creek, Fitzroy Stars and Whittlesea within the first four rounds of the year before travelling to fierce rival Lalor in Round 5.
Mernda’s first home game since claiming the Division 3 premiership will come in Round 2 when it takes on Whittlesea. Both sides return to Division 2 in 2013 and will meet on three occasions throughout the year.
The Eagles will likely head into the season as the premiership favourite and have avoided playing two 2012 finalists (Diamond Creek and Fitzroy Stars) on three occasions, but will have to meet North Heidelberg three times – two of which will be played at the Whittlesea Showgrounds.
