The 2015 NFL Division 1 season is set to kick off with a bang, with the opening round to be played across three days.

Reigning premier Greensborough will unfurl its premiership flag in a Good Friday season-opener against Eltham on Friday, April 3. The sides also met on Good Friday in 2014, with the Boro victorious in front of huge crowd at Eltham Central Reserve.

A week later Northcote Park will meet West Preston-Lakeside under lights at Bill Lawry Oval. It is the second year in a row the two sides have begun their campaign on a Friday night, following a draw in the 2014 opener.

On Saturday, April 11 the remaining three matches of the first round will be played. They will include blockbuster matches between powerhouse sides Bundoora and Heidelberg and local neighbours Lower Plenty and Montmorency.

North Heidelberg’s first Division 1 match in since 2011 will be played at Shelley Reserve, where it will host 2014 preliminary finalist Macleod.

All teams who play away in Round 1 will play at home in Round 2.

Round 3 will be played on ANZAC Day and will commemorate the 100-year anniversary of Australian soldiers landing at Gallipoli.

Bundoora, Greensborough, Heidelberg, Montmorency and North Heidelberg will all play at home on ANZAC Day and all will work closely with local RSL branches to honour the significant day.

The first of two Grand Final rematches will be played in Round 5, when Heidelberg hosts Greensborough at Warringal Park. The return fixture will be played at War Memorial Park in Round 13.

Bundoora will host Montmorency in a standalone Division 1 match over the Queen’s Birthday weekend. It will be the first top flight match played on that weekend since 2011.

As it did in 2014, West Preston-Lakeside will host Northcote Park on a Sunday afternoon in July. The match is scheduled for Round 12 and coincides with a bye in the junior fixture.

A bye has been scheduled between rounds 13 and 14 on July 18, giving all ten sides a break five weeks out from the finals series.

Finals are set to commence on the last weekend of August, beginning with the qualifying final on Saturday, August 29. The season will conclude with the Division 1 Grand Final on Saturday, September 19.
